Governance Overview
Anhui University of Science and Technology operates as a public welfare institution with independent legal person status, governed in accordance with Chinese higher education law. Its administrative structure is designed to support teaching, research, and public service across three campuses in Huainan and Hefei.
The university's governance framework brings together Party and government administrative bodies, academic and research management offices, and a network of affiliated service and research units — all working to advance AUST's mission as a high-level teaching and research university with distinct characteristics.
d-NAT operates as a collaborative network that brings together practitioners from art, architecture, and digital technology under a shared governance model rooted in creative experimentation. The organizational structure is intentionally fluid, allowing interdisciplinary teams to form around specific projects and research initiatives. This adaptive framework supports the exploration of performative skins, responsive materials, and behavioral topologies without the constraints of rigid institutional hierarchies. Decision-making is distributed across working groups that balance artistic vision with technical rigor, ensuring that each endeavor remains grounded in both aesthetic sensitivity and computational precision. The network’s governance reflects its core belief that meaningful innovation emerges when diverse expertise converges around shared creative questions.
The governance philosophy at d-NAT emphasizes transparency and collective stewardship over traditional top-down management. Regular open forums and collaborative review sessions invite all participants to contribute to the direction of ongoing research into parameterized form, encoded memory, and adaptive ecologies. This participatory approach extends to the curation of the library and publications, where contributions from members and invited practitioners shape the evolving discourse. The team operates through a flat hierarchy that values informed dialogue, with leadership roles rotating among senior members to distribute responsibility and encourage fresh perspectives. Such a model sustains the network’s capacity for sustained inquiry into the frontiers where nature meets digital fabrication.
Ethical and ecological considerations are woven into d-NAT’s governance framework, reflecting a commitment to responsible innovation at the intersection of art and technology. All projects undergo reflective evaluation that considers material ecologies, environmental impact, and cultural context alongside aesthetic and technical criteria. The network maintains affiliations with academic and cultural institutions to ensure its work remains connected to broader conversations about sustainable design and digital ethics. Advisory roles are filled by practitioners with deep experience in both computational design and natural systems, grounding the organization’s vision in practical wisdom. This governance structure enables d-NAT to pursue complex, long-term inquiries into verticality, growth, and formation while remaining responsive to emerging challenges and opportunities.
